Did you know that nearly 6,000 people experience homelessness in South Australia every year?
This week is National Homelessness Week, and you might be wondering how you can get involved.
There are different events on around Adelaide for this important week of awareness! The Homelessness SA’s Memorial Service is a touching and special event to remember those who have passed away while experiencing homelessness. The Hutt St Centre also hosts the annual Walk a Mile in My Boots event for participants to experience what it is like on a cold, winter’s morning to walk one mile to find something to eat.
Adelaide Zero Project is also hosting their annual Homelessness Conference, and a Health and Homelessness from a Creative Perspective event – ideal for sector professionals.
There’s always the option of hosting your own fundraising event for the Hutt St Centre, who have lots of great fundraising ideas and can give you plenty of support.
The theme of this year’s Homelessness Week is ‘Housing Ends Homelessness’. So, another great way that you can join in this week is by participating in the important South Australian Housing Authority’s YourSay’s ‘Housing and Homelessness Strategy’ survey. The survey will help inform a new Housing and Homelessness Strategy, which is currently being developed and will be rolled out over the next 10 years.
