Indigenous Parenting Support Services
The Northern Indigenous Parenting Support Service (IPSS) is based at the Salisbury office and provides flexible services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children who live and/or access services in the Southern Elizabeth area. The service focuses on enhancing and improving parenting skills, assisting in addressing those parental needs that may impede on positive parenting and family functioning, and building strong and supportive community networks. The program also supports Aboriginal mothers experiencing the effects of peri-natal depression.
The service works with clients who have children aged 0-12 years, with a particular focus on the 0-2 years age group.
Services include:
- A Friday playgroup at Kaurna Plains Children’s Centre
- A weekly drop-in program for mums and new babies, focusing on feeding and settling new babies, and accessing formal and informal networks
- New Tracks - A program for mothers experiencing post-natal depression. An onsite crèche will provide mothers with valuable time out to yarn with a range of support people and learn self-care strategies
- A Dad and kid’s BBQ and games night.
